d3dx9_31.dll?

This may seem like a stupid question, but what is the d3dx9_31.dll file for? I put it in my game/bin folder. When I installed the monkey installer thing, it said on its list of features that it "Automatically copies in the d3dx9_31.dll file needed for AwesomeMod." Why does AwesomeMod need this file?

So, should I save it to my windows/system folder? Or does it still work if it's just in my game/bin folder?
