Have you tried switching to that family and double-clicking on the picture of the baby in the family list? I seem to have a strange glitch in my game where babies in some families occasionally don't show up in that list when the family is active (thus far it has only happened to larvae I haven't bothered to buy cribs for, since they don't belong to my Legacy family), but reappear when I switch back to that family later. I'd wait a sim day or two and try making that family active again, and see if the baby is there then.

Does "wasn't there at all" mean that it wasn't listed with the family?
Does the mystery larvae show up in the family tree?
Do family members have it in their relationship tab?

For starters, I would try "resetsim simname"
simname clearly being the first and last name of the baby, with a space in the middle.

I have had many larvae in non-played famlies vanish.

I blame elves. This is clearly the work of elves.

Grue.  They should have put lights in the nursery.

Babies and toddlers in currently unplayed houses seem to vanish when the adults leave the house. They reappear when someone comes home. Hogwarts daycare, maybe?

Who are you thanking, though? Did he reappear when an adult came home, or did you reset him, or did you do whatever that was that little_lark described?
