Where do dead babies/toddlers go?

THANKS THIS IS GREAT

They don't leave a tombstone, urn, nor do they show up in Manage Dead at the mausoleum.  They've vanished, but still show in my sim's family tree.

How did you manage to kill the baby/toddler?

Every time I dropped their hunger level/energy level I just got a warning saying the social worker would take him/her away!

Sorry I can't answer your question though, I'm just curious as to how you did it...

I didn't kill them myself, the game killed them as part of story progression.  In the newspaper, it said my sim's baby died (he is the father, babies lived with their mothers).  A couple times it was due to fire, several times due to starvation.

Did the father have a high relationship with the kid?  It seems to me that the game just randomly poofs people that don't have strong relationship levels with the active family, and makes up a random death to explain it.   The fact that you read about it in the paper, and didn't get a separate popup notification, suggests that he didn't know the kid too well.

Nah, the father is a deadbeat.  He only knows a handful of his 20-30 offspring.
I think he's lost 5 babies so far, 3 of them in the Langerak household.

To clarify my post, the game does randomly poof people.  My speculation is that this is what happened with the baby in your game.  It didn't really die, it got deleted and the game basically tells you to pretend it died.

I think the babies did die before they got poofed though.  He does have a "poofed" kid, when that household moved away.  That kid still shows up in his family tree in color, but just never ages and no death notice.  The others are B&W and did have a death notice in the paper.  The result is the same, they're gone without a trace, but there is a difference in the family tree - color vs. B&W. Smiley

I had thought about having him resurrect one of his dead babies at the science building, but apparently only "loved ones" show up in Manage Graves.

You need the Awesomemod to prevent random shit like that.

Wow, that's surprising that they would kill off babies and toddlers....I wonder if it's a glitch.  Since when did Maxis break the bounds of what is *acceptable* for realism's sake?  I only say that because it's always been off-limits to kill them in all of the games.
Will the game actually kill your own custom Sims or does Story Mode only work on Townies/NPCs? Does it draw the sims you've made and added into the town into the whole progression and, say, marry them off, etc? I haven't played Story Mode yet but it's starting to sound interesting.  Tongue

Looks as though the answer to my above question is yes....the game WILL chew your custom families and spit them out in a poorly thought out, non-interesting, though highly annoying, manner.

No idea if it's a glitch, but babies definitely can croak in Sims 3!  I don't know if they can die in the active household though.  I think the game doesn't make any distinction between custom Sims and pre-made Sims.  They all live in a house like any other.  I can't say for sure, but I've lost a ton of the pre-made Sims due to "moving away" and the game moves even uglier townies in to replace them.  I've only made 2 custom Sims so far, but I don't think there's any difference to the game whether I made a Sim or if they were pre-made in the family bin, but I HAVE put all the Sims from the family bin into my town, and all but 2 have moved away!

I know the Awesomemod is obviously awesome, but for now I'm enjoying playing the game as EA intended with all its unpredictability.  None of the pre-made Sims are good looking enough that really care what happens to them anyway. Smiley
I might have a different attitude if I start populating the town with Sims I created and spent hours making their faces.

Re: Dead Babies

Yeah I know that's the worst possible title

But moving right along,

I figured out why babies (in theory) are dying while in the care of townies. At least according to a request for help that I saw and some odd Townie behavior.

It seems that single townie parents of simlets with deadbeat parents seem to have trouble in their townie homes.

I went to visit the neighbor of one such townie to notice that she was stuck in the geometry of her house with the simlet. Having not seen the social worker sim yet I can only imagine that the townie young adult mom and child that got stuck behind a fence (Laurel Grisby) would have both died. I reset them but it isn't the first time I've seen infants and toddlers outside, I wouldn't doubt that the majority of townie homes have these death traps where infants and toddlers could end up getting stuck and unable to be rescued.

After having reset Laurel, Luz remained in her blanket, on their front lawn for several hours, until the middle of the morning when it occurred to Laurel to come out and rescue her infant from the elements and possible alien abduction.

Basically, Maxis please review all townie homes for death trap architecture so that townies don't spawn there and end up getting stuck and end up dying. There's no Lassie in the game to fetch help if they get stuck.

Except that houses you aren't playing don't run like that. Have you ever done some voyeurism in your game? Neighbor households run like dorm rooms in TS2: University. They are docking stations where the sims are kept in a neutral, static state. Babies/toddlers are not interacted with at all in townie homes, regardless of their position. My current family is set across the street from a household where the townies had twin boys. The boys lay abandoned in the front yard from baby through toddler stages. To date, they are both adults, spending their neutral time in the yard.

Taking advice from the BBS? Seriously?

I've just confirmed it's not possible to kill a baby in an active household, at least not by starvation, even if it's walled in.  Wink  The social worker will come take it, and he can magically "poof" the baby out of its walled-in room.
The story progression feature just decides on its own which babies will live and which will die.

Yeah, I've noticed sims are kept in a neutral state in the neighbor households.  I've got a couple lots with nothing but a sunflower and I put the sims from the bin on them.  If they're not watched, they're fine.  If they're watched, they eventually repeatedly pass out and wet themselves (though no visible puddles).

Yes, the "bus" system is basically a cover for the fact that the TS3 AI is just as shitty, if not more so, than the TS2 AI. And this is precisely why visiting neighbors was a bad idea: Once you corner them in their homes, they have nowhere they can retreat offscreen to.

I had a notification that a burgular was on the active Sims property, so I clicked on it and it wasn't their house.   It was a house down the street(Bunch house) and the burgular was stuck in between all the Sims.  He was going crazy and it took hours before he was able to wiggle free.  I thought I was going to have a dead burgler.  It left the house wide open and you could see that they just stood there till they were called to leave the house.

I had a child in the household I'm playing (Roomies) chat on the phone with her deadbeat dad (Dioc Doofus).  For fun, I zoomed over to his house to see what he did while they were talking; I wondered if he would be on the phone, too.  At first, he was standing outside his house, and then he walked inside, and I could see him, through the window, merrily painting on the easel, but not talking on the phone.  As he painted, though, he got occasional relationship ++ symbol over his head, presumably from the phone conversation taking place at the Roomies home.  So the game apparently is smart enough to do that much, although not smart enough to have him use the phone animation.

One more reason for a Firefox/Ad Block combo. I already have it blocked. Is it the one of the eye with things stuck in it? Things in eyes really freak me out. Conspiracy Theory. Ew.

I think bus kills affect all age groups, and bring along their stupid problems. I had a family with an adult male who didn't seem to be close to dying when I played another family. The moment I got back, he was dead(Family tree showed a grayed out portrait, assuming they're dead). I went looking around for the tombstone, maybe it was in the family inventory or some other family member's inventory, but found nothing. The Mausoleum didn't give any results either. Is there any way to get the tombstone?

This was before I got the Awesome mod.

Interesting thing I noticed... one of the toddlers that I assumed had moved away with his mother (or so I thought), somehow reappeared in his original house as a teen.  Very weird.

If you think about it.  If every unplayable Sim was using the appropriate animations, then our computers probably couldn't handle it.

Yes i noticed that shit and it pissed me off much more acutely because the spawn was one of my own. I was like WAFM waaah is mah babeh on the lawnz!?!

Can't imagine what the game would be like with rabbid lawn growth + this shit + riding lawn mower.. or robot lawn mower (it wouldn't care). Breutt.. mess of simlet all of the lawn and house and car and horrified criminally negligent sims.
