Build mode=crash (problem solved)

Ok, at some point I have apparently downloaded custom stairs that my game doesn't agree with.  When I'm in build mode I click on the stairs icon and.... crash... every time.  I thought it might be just a coincidence that it crashed when I clicked the icon but I changed houses and got the same thing (several times).

My question is: Since looking through my massive downloads folder trying to find anything with stairs in the name is proving to be useless, is there a better way to find out the problem that's causing the crashes?

This sounds like a problem I encountered with some decorative items I had in my game. Creators unfortunately don't always name their .package files anything handy, so I used Delphy's Download Organizer too see what every package file was in my downloads. I found the problem files, deleted them, and restored my game to normalcy.

If you are certain it's stairs, the problem should be fairly easy to find with the program mentioned. It was a quite painless procedure.

It was a long time ago (and I was on a mac), but I ran into a problem with a set of stairs I downloaded from Sunni Sims. The game would crash like yours if I clicked on the stairs icon. If you have any from there try removing them, it might help.

Thanks so much Haley, using that program worked great. I yanked out my last ones downloaded and low and behold that was the problem.  It was a curved staircase set from TSR. It's a shame they didn't work for me... I thought they were nice.

What is it with sunni sims? The canopy on their site makes my game freeze.
