I went to VS and sent myself a PM with the link to Pescado's front page.  When I read the PM, it substituted "Link Blocked By Linked Site."  So even trying to link to the front page doesn't work.  (Other folks may have already said this, but your comment seemed to say to me, Hook, that you didn't understand this is what they were saying ..... if that's what they said .. which they may not have.   Sorry, after work drinks are kicking in  Cheesy )

Sorry, I thought I'd read here that the links worked, but only went to the front page.  If they're blocking even that much, then this whole thing *does* have more to do with buttocks than servers. Smiley

Maybe someone over there will eventually pull their head out of their server and get it right.

I hope so because in the end the ones hurt the most by this pettiness is the simming community that may need one of Pescado's fixes for their game alot of newcomers to simming dont always know when a modder has left a site and how to find the new site. case in point my daughter is new to Sims 2 and needed the no whats this mod I told her about eons ago so she went to various simmers not knowing JM had left there and wasnt able to link to here . so she called me and asked if I knew how to get  to MATY  and I sent her the link from the front page here in an email . she is thrilled  now her sim isnt running up 3 stories to ooh and ahh over a new toilet she put in the house

Check out this thread:  http://www.variousimmers.net/vsimforum/showthread.php?threadid=2807

Rentech is on a roll.  You did know that updating your video drivers will solve most if not all your problems?  Also, leaving "boolprop" commands on all the time causes problems and "even modders turn this off when they don't need it."   Shocked

I have a low-end video card, and while my game lags sometimes, I don't think this causes things to drop out of queue because I've heard others talk about this.  This is a game design issue.  And leaving the game in debug mode has helped me far more than it has harmed me.  It has let me know about problems that I wouldn't have known about otherwise.  I believe JM said it doesn't hurt anything.  And where does she get her information about leaving it running adds "overhead" to the game?  I've never heard anyone, JM, TJ, or the like, mention anything like this.  Is there any merit to this statement?

Seeing as how this was posted in TwoJeffs' section, I was waiting to see what he would have to say about it, but Rennie jumped in first and posted a looooooong response that I am not even sure is all that accurate.  My eyes started glazing over by the time I got to the end.

I just saw the same thing on Dizzy2's forum in the thread for his random chance card hack.  He referred to what I assume was JM's thread here about how chance cards work.  It was replaced by the link above with a topic number after it.

Thanks, I've fixed it.

The first part sounds like her hanging out with the people at Maxis has rubbed off on her, while the second part sounds like she's been hanging out at the BBS too much.

I love how Pam makes this royal decree proclaimations about total bullshit as if they are fact. Did you also know in the world according to Rentech polygon counts do not matter at all and you can make custom meshes with a bazillion polygons and never experience any slowdown or problems whatsoever?

[/quote]Im not a creator but I do know I recently had a field day in my downloads folder clearing out CC Inever used and the odd thing about that was most of it had very high polygon counts. after spring cleaning my downloads folder . I discovered my game lost its sluggishness. so as a user of CC I know for a fact the Polygon count in a mesh makes a big difference especially if your DL folder is huge like mine is I cleared over 100 mb of downloads out of there and its still sitting at 746 mb however prior to going in there and getting rid of  what amounted to clutter it was 1.2gb in size

I don't even think I've ever seen a shoooooooooort response from her.

I was a Journalism major in college (one of a bajillion majors I tried out, journalism being the first) and our textbook for JM101 (not making the name up, it really was called JM101, as in Journalism Major, I guess???) was a Strunk and White book that, dork that I am, I'd already read long before going to college. Anyway, we were taught to live/write by this rule: "Omit needless words. Vigorous writing is concise." That's something I failed to do in this post, and Rennie has failed to do in every single post she's made. The consequence would be, of course, the glazing over of the readers' eyes. Any point possibly worth making is lost in the babblage.

If the bug returns - chances are your have a neighborhood either too full or starting to corrupt. You may want to package up Sim families and houses, and the replace the neighborhoods with the backed up clean ones and move in new familities.

As if packaging your families up and unpacking them into a "clean" neighborhood would HELP with overpopulation issues.  Oh, the irony.

And as if jumps caused by overpopulation were not, in fact, jump BUGS, but... something else.  Something non-buggy.  Y'know, like a problem in the code that crops up in certain situations which are pretty much guaranteed with the designed gameplay.  Except that's a bug.

Rennie cannot post a short answer to save her life. Even a simple question that asks for a yes or no answer will be followed up by a War and Peace tirade.

Is she telling people to pack up sims and move them to new neighborhoods to fix overpopulated neighborhoods? Again, she sounds like Maxis. They used to tell people to do that to fix the jump bug.  Roll Eyes In fact, it's the worst thing you can do and will make your overpopulation 10x worse! When you pack up lots with sims not only does it pack up those sims, but it packs up character files for every sim eveyone in the family has ever met. That may not sound so bad except that when you move another house, that house will also pack up separate character files for everyone that family has ever met. If you move 8 houses and all 8 families knew John, Jane and Bobby, you will now have 8 separate duplicate character files each for John, Jane and  Bobby. Considering most families have met far more than 3 sims, you can easily imagine you'd end up with a huge, huge mess!

I did this very early on moving people between neighborhoods before any of us knew these consequences and all I can say is don't do it! If you must bring someone over, use SimPE to export their looks to a package file and then recreate a clone in the CAS and use testingcheats to set whatever stats and job ad such they were at in the old neighborhood. This is a much cleaner way to do it.

I agree early on I also did that  to some sims I moved families with house to a new neighborhood as a result my sims acted in crazy ways towards family members because they no longer saw Jane or Bobby as family. one issut that comes to mind I encountered was Herb Oldie Suddenly wanted to flirt with Mary Sue Pleasant his adopted daughter  since he no longer recognized the family tie because of my errant moves I made. I now have Justin in my game as a clone of course from Brynne sending him to me. I set his aspiration as the same as he is in her game  and I used sim pe to bring his stat ie College etc to the rough equivalent of where its supposed to be and used a hacked buyable collection to supply the diploma. it says Justin Graduated Magna cum laude  with a degree in mathematics. the result no curruption in the file and no odd behavior

That's because I only sent the bodyshop clone of Justin. But good to see you're taking care of him! He was a poly-sci major in my game and is now a hall of famer. Of course.

I also made the mistake of adding all the extra character files to my neighborhood early on. One of my sims (Joe's first wife, Jennie) mysteriously disappeared from my game. She was referred to as "Subject" in all my sims' memories. Not knowing any better, I took a backup neighborhood that still had her file intact and packaged her up on an empty lot. Put the current neighborhood back in, and thought things would proceed normally. I had copies of all my sims and couldn't tell who was who. Jenny's kids were suddently flirting with each other. Joe and Jennie were suddenly not married. It was a disaster. Obviously, I didn't keep that copy of the neighborhood. I cloned Jennie and redid all family ties, myself, which was a pain in the ass.

Sounds like things are moving right along for your Justin, then! Mine is still debating whether to marry Jennifer Burb or not. And he's raising his five kids without any help from his loser-ex, Sadie. His father and several other family members also live in the house, so it ain't so bad. I think there are currently 20 sims living in his house. I'm not sure, though. I just moved in two more of his brothers  Tongue

My Justin's ex is in Major Aspiration Failure I had Justin Summon her using the teleporter and she sat on his floor  playing with her lips and then she got up  and started beating on her chest like she is king kong and laughing at nothing. I am thinking about going into CAS and retrieving Justin give him a new Name and aspiration to match hers and a astrologic sign that complements her and move him into her house . maybe use SimPE to make the look alike Justin's younger brother.  and see if that helps poor Tara. I had Justin check her out and I still get a total lack of chemistry  he looks at her and goes  Eh..............the funny thing is Tara is absolutely gorgeous Brown hair,Blue eyes understated make up courtesy of Pronup sims she has a beautiful haiirstyle and nice make up  custom eyes from sugar and spikes and custom clothes

I'm guessing you don't have Merola's multi-painting or the Inseminator in your game. You can change most of what you said using those. The Inseminator will also let you change zodiac signs. That's a heated topic, here, though. Lots of people don't like the Inseminator, but I'm not having any problems with it. You can also use the re-nu-yu orb thing to change aspirations and turn-ons. Just trying to save you having to recreate him again.

I want to leave Justin as he is . he is a romance sim who is a Taurus which suits him .my thought since I still have a clone of him in CAS was to use the clone and create his younger brother with the Family aspiration to match Justins ex wife Tara and give as yet unnamed younger brother a complemnetary zodiac sign for Tara she is aquarius

Ok, now I am confused.   Tongue  Rennie now says it's BAD to move sims from neighborhood to neighborhood.   Huh

http://www.variousimmers.net/vsimforum/showthread.php?t=2827
Quote
One is an oldie, but a goody. With the addition of 'downtown' and the ability to now move whole families downtown from a base neighborhood people suddenly forgot is was a BAD idea to move Sims from neighborhood to neighborhood (base neighborhood to base neighborhood). Downtown is like the college campus, its an extension of the base neighborhood but since downtown allows you to move whole families people seem to have forgotten that while it was okay to go from the base neighborhood to sub neighborhood it was not good to go from base to base. So many moved whole families from base neighborhood A or B to base neighborhood C or D and forgot that now these new neighborhood(s) are now suffering from expediently duplicated Sims which will cause all sorts of problems including things like disappearing Sims, jump bug like symptoms, memory bug like symptoms, and just instable game play. The underlying cause, the fact that each and every Sim moved from one neighborhood to another takes a copy of every they know or have known, or are related to with them to the neighborhood, has not been fixed - the fact that the Sim was moved its the issue not a new bug and a problem that could be readily avoided - and one that can be fixed.

Yet another long, rambling post which I could barely skim through trying to find the point.  I thought the topic looked interesting, "Request: Fix for Missing Cars and Sims Bug," and I thought I might learn something useful, but got Rentech's blatherings instead.

You know, long posts aren't so bad when there is actually a point and the poster has a grasp of spelling and grammar and syntax.  For example, if I can pick on syperspunk for a minute (don't worry, it's not bad Wink), he has admitted that he rambles a bit, but I don't mind reading his posts because they are interesting and I can follow what he says.  He usually seems to know what he is talking about.  And I feel like Rennie is preaching down at people sometimes like in this post.

I can't recall who it was.  But I once read a post on the BBS by someone who said that they moved EVERY family from the premade neighborhoods into one custom neighborhood.  And I'm pretty sure this was before Uni, when the character file limit was much smaller.

I have to wonder how quickly that neighborhood exploded...   Cheesy

My Justin is a Gemini. A rarity in his family, since his father and most of his siblings are all Taurus. He does have a teenaged brother, though. Actually, two. They're twins. Jeremiah and Jason. They are the two that Joe kept out of the 11 children he and Bella had not long ago, where the others were adopted by Don Lothario. Jason looks almost identical to Justin as a teen. He's also a romance sim:
