Question About Getting Downloaded MP3's to play in-game
« on: 2005 October 23, 18:53:31 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I have downloaded and purchased several MP3's from Napster.  I paid for them, can burn them to disk, etc.  But why will they not play in-game?  I can play them with WMP and REAL Player, they work fine.  They should work fine in-game, right?  I have made copies of each MP3 and put them in my MY DOCUMENTS/EAGAMES/THE SIMS 2/Music folder.  Older MP3's work, but my new stuff that I've downloaded does not.   Huh

I can't speak for Napster, but the way iTunes Music Store does it is this:
Each file downloaded is a special type of standard music file, where it is locked to certain things. For example, if I were to send my music files that I bought (Via the internet) to a buddy, then would not be able to play it because it is "locked"
That may have something to do with it.

I personally have never added my own music, I like the Sims's taste Smiley

Pilot's right, they probably have some kind of copyright protection that TS2 doesn't know how to read. Try burning them to a CD, then re-ripping them to MP3 again.

Put them in the music subfolders. You do not have to delete the settings.package.

Moral of the story? Don't pay for music. Wink

Seriously, it's this kind of crap that will end up causing more harm than good for the recording industry. It only hurts honest people who would have bought the damned songs anyway without the protection. Those who want to pirate can still easily get it.  Tongue

Motoki, you are so right.  I was a happy freeshare downloader until the recording industry sued a 12 year old thousands of dollars.  Greedy SOB's.  Anyway, back to my problem.

Yeah, Pilot, they are locked, but I thought that once I payed for the copyrights (99 cents a track) then they were unlocked.  I can burn them to CD after that.  But I hadn't thought about trading them to friends.  (But, duh, if I was going to do that, couldn't I burn them and then cell the CD's, if I was that type of person?)

Kit:  !#$@#  Why didn't I think of that??  LMAO

If they're actual MP3s, it's impossible for them to have DRM attached. If they're some other format (WMP, WMA, AAC) then they won't play ingame.

For itunes stuff, you can remove the drm fairly easily with JHYMM (JHYMM will also convert to MP3 if you want). Do not do this to steal music. For your own use, there's nothing wrong with it. You bought it, it's your music to play on your computer however you want.
